Do you love Warbirds but are not a billionaire?
Were you born too late to be one of the “few” that flew wonderful machines in twisting dogfights though the skies of WWII?
You can soon experience some part of that thrill and enjoyment without the massive financial outlay, risk, and maintenance headache involved in Warbird ownership (and combat!)
What was originally an idea to do a fully complete 3D model of the Spitfire for posterity morphed into a dream to build an actual flying aircraft, and to do it as identical as possible to the original while emphasizing safety for the non-professional pilot.
95% Scale Carbon Fiber
Slightly scaled down for weight and balance. It’s carbon fiber because that is light, strong, and eases manufacture of the compound curved surfaces.
*Optional ballistic parachute
It’s about 10% smaller in area and 15% smaller in volume, meaning it’s handier to have around but still big enough to look full size to most any eye. You can take a passenger and we’ve made ingress more pleasant for both. We can send this kit to you as individual pieces if you like doing composites work. If you don’t or you’re a busy bee, we have an option so that it can come as a nearly complete airframe.
THE BUILD
Projected completion:
• It’s difficult to say. We do want to have one version of completed aircraft by late 2022 with kits available concurrently or following. We would recommend to view this as a 2-5 year project and substantially longer if you want to do everything yourself. Right now things are fluid so we don’t want to get too much hype going.
Where progress stands currently:
• We’re ready to have the molding company begin making the carbon fiber molds as of 2021. That process is planned to go through 2022 so that we have a full set of parts well before the end of ’22
The founders met in the Army during the Iraq/Afghan war years and have been involved in another unrelated industry together for the last 10+ years. The aircraft company was born out of our love of aviation in general and warbirds in particular, with a special emphasis on Spitfires. One of our founders grew up near a library filled with British based WWII recountments and has been interested ever since. We’re doing what we can in-house and utilizing other aircraft engineering resources to make this project happen. No one does this kind of thing to become a billionaire, and it’s a long slow process but it’s fun and we think that the result will be something worth bringing to the world.
